Patterns of operation describe the default thoughts, feelings and otherwise, that guide our interaction with life on a very basic level. We often use these patterns to define our identity, as to whether we reply honestly, courageously, or otherwise in a given situation. In analogy with a computer, this is akin to the kernel of an operating system. These patterns of operation are often formed unconsciously through the environment. I use this term somewhat akin to how [[John Dewey]] uses 'habits of the mind'. --- Intentional overcoming of negative patterns can be seen through: - **Cognitive behavioural therapy**, changing responses to situations in a behaviourist manner. - **Psychoanalysis** assumes a cognitive basis for such patterns, and that reason can overcome it.
